8 Gluten Free Products Buying Tips

8 Gluten Free Products Buying Tips

Those who are diagnosed with celiac disease or are sensitive to gluten will want to take advantage of the limited gluten free products in the market.  However, finding such products can be dizzying, overwhelming, and confusing all at the same time.

Imagine having to look for stickers or gluten free signs of every product you come across and you might wish that you were never diagnosed with that disease.  Additionally, gluten free products are more expensive than the gluten-laden counterparts so others will hesitate to buy those products.

Don’t worry.  you don’t need to break the bank to be able to buy gluten free products.  This Gluten Free Dallas post will give you buying tips that you can take advantage of to minimize cost and make grocery shopping easier.

Gluten Free Products: How To Buy

1. Take a blood test to make sure that you really need gluten free products.  Consuming and using those products are all the rage today because they are deemed as healthy.  For this reason, many are jumping on the bandwagon to experience this “trend”.

It does not mean that you should too as there are risks involved for those who do not need to live this kind of lifestyle.  Again, have yourself tested to make sure that you need this kind of lifestyle change.

2. Products that do not contain gluten are pricier than those who do have them.  Therefore, we advice that you avoid putting the whole family on a gluten free diet if only one or two people need them.

3. Concentrate on food that never had and will never have gluten in them.  Example?  That’s easy!  Meat, fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs, dairy products, and nuts don’t have gluten in them.  This way, label scrutinizing and sticker searching will be lessened for you.  You get to save your time as well.

4. Make use of coupons.  If you know where to look, you can find a site that gives away coupons so you can spend less or get discounts for gluten free products.  Need I explain this further?

5. Bulk purchasing is the best way to go.  Bulk bin items are best if you want to try out the product before permanently binding yourself to that particular product.  go to health food stores to try bulk buying.

6. Buy online.  If you just don’t have the time to go from aisle to aisle or if you don’t like bulk buying, you can order gluten free-products at Amazon.  The great thing about this is that you get to compare products or shops with less time.  You can snag the best deals too if you are quick.

7. Make your own baking mixes.  Yes, you can do that instead of purchasing expensive pre-mixed gluten-free baking mixes.  Believe me, there are tons of tutorials online for this purpose.

8. Beware of added sugar, sodium, and fat in products without gluten.  This is intentionally done by the manufacturers to compensate for the taste.  The processed ones are commonly known for those extras so watch out for them.

Guide on How To Be Gluten Free

After being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, you might wonder and ask yourself how to be gluten free.  How do you start to live this kind of lifestyle?  This lifestyle change is a very vital step in your life that you need to commit to.  If you are still clueless on what to do, let this guide help you.

How To Be Gluten Free: Beginning the Change

Here are things that you can do to successfully cope with Celiac Disease:

1. Look for groups that support those who are suffering from Celiac disease.  You can ask to join the group so you have people whom you can relate to.  These people will help you adapt and get used to the changes in your life.

2. Learn to manage your food consumption.  You can do the following:

  • Start buying unprocessed foods, fruits, vegetables, and unmarinated meat.  By the way, gluten free products are more expensive.
  • Plan your meals prior to going to the grocery store to avoid frustration during your grocery shopping.  It is better if you plan gluten free meal for the entire family rather than cooking for one as this will lessen the burden or meal planning and preparation.
  • Create a food diary and note down everything that you eat including the ingredients or brands.  This way, you will be able to distinguish which triggers reactions.
  • Raid your fridge and pantry and part with your gluten-laden food.  If you want, you can store them in a different cabinet so that other family members who are gluten tolerant can still eat them when they come over.
  • Begin cooking easy meals.  you can try one recipe per week for a variety of choices.
  • Be wary of the products that you buy and read the labels.  There is a separate post in this site that will help you learn about the names that manufacturers use in their ingredient list.  This also applies to cosmetics, medications, supplements, and other things.
  • Unfortunately, you will make mistakes on your journey on how to be gluten free.  Therefore, it is important to go back to your food diary from time to time as gluten is hidden in different goods.

3.  Learn how to wait.  Delay milk consumption until about 4 months.  Celiac sufferers may development lactose intolerance temporarily.  Good thing, this will be over in a few months time and you can freely enjoy milk after.

There will be other sensitivities that will arise.  Soy allergy is common among the celiacs.  In addition to that, fat cannot be easily digested by the gut.

4.  Equip yourself with the right tools.  Don’t be afraid to purchase gluten-free cookbooks.  Make it a collection so you can have a variety of meals to prepare.

Investigate and never hesitate to call manufacturers about their products.  It is better to ask a lot of questions today than be sorry later.  Ask if the product contains wheat, barley, oats, rye, or any derivatives instead of asking if the product is gluten free.

How To Be Gluten Free: In a Nutshell

Learning how to be gluten free is not as easy as it seems.  It does not just involve eliminating gluten from your lifestyle but also totally overhauling your life.  This learning process does not stop as more and more products surface the market.

2 Simple Tricks to Spot Gluten Free Makeup

2 Simple Tricks to Spot Gluten Free Makeup

In this day and age, people are becoming more aware of the beauty of using gluten free makeup over the traditional gluten-laden counterparts.  The thing is, it is difficult to distinguish one from the other.  Don’t fret my dear makeup enthusiasts.  This post will briefly discuss what gluten is and how you can find gluten free makeup.

Gluten Free Makeup: Getting To Know Gluten

Wheat, barley, and rye contain a protein called gluten.  In the cosmetics world, gluten is regularly used as binder to make the ingredients stick together.  However, there are many people nowadays who have developed sensitivity to this ingredient.  This severe intolerance to gluten is called Celiac Disease.

People commonly know gluten as a culprit for internal and digestive problems.  But now, it has also been proven to cause harsh skin irritations.  One of which is dermatitis herpetiformis.  Why or how is a skin problem possible?

As you may be aware by now, the skin absorbs anything we put in it.  Even though you are putting a little bit of makeup every day, it can unknowingly accumulate and eventually lead to this exceedingly painful skin rash (most especially if the product is accidentally ingested such as mouthwash, toothpaste, lipstick, and lip gloss).

Those who have Celiac disease may not experience the symptoms right away but the fact is that impairment is being done inside their bodies as they continually use products with gluten.  You may be faced with immune problems, sterility, and even cancer if you do not monitor your gluten usage.

Gluten Free Makeup: 2 Tips to Determining

Rashes or skin disorder may be the last thing on your mind whenever you apply your makeup because you are laser-focused on prettifying yourself.  But what if you have Celiac disease or is sensitive to gluten?

You need to be wary of the products that you are using.  Below are just two tips to buy or find gluten free makeup.

  1. Find GF – no, I am not referring to girlfriend.  GF means gluten free and you need to look for signs or logos in the packaging that blatantly says “GF”.  There are also labels that spell out “gluten free” to make sure that those with gluten intolerance can safely use the makeup.  Otherwise, scram and look for legit gluten free makeup.
  2. Read, read, and read – always read and check the label because you will never find gluten written in the ingredients list.  Or have you ever read a makeup label that says it has wheat, barley, or rye in it?  Nope!

They use scientific names that sometimes they themselves don’t understand.  How much more for us commoners, right?  Here is a list of scientific words or ingredients that will help you know that what you are looking at is NOT a gluten free makeup:

  • Avena Sativa
  • Cyclodextrin
  • Dextrin, Dextrin Palmitate
  • Hordeum Vulgare
  • Hydrolyzed malt extract, Hydrolyzed oat flour, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed wheat flour, hydrolyzed wheat gluten, hydrolyzed wheat protein, hydrolyzed wheat protein/PVP crosspolymer, hydrolyzed wheat starch
  • Secale cereal seed flour
  • Triticum Vulgare
  • Vitamin E (they are sometimes obtained from wheat)
  • Wheat amino acids, wheat germ glycerides, wheat germamidopropalkonium chloride, wheat protein, wheatermamidopropyl ethyldimonium ethosulfate
  • Yeast extract

They are a mouthful, right?  Watch out for those ingredients and we assure you that you will be able to tell a gluten free makeup from not.  Good luck beauties from your Gluten Free Dallas family!
